Disney’s Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

Are you looking for a Disney Resort that’s affordable, high on the fun factor, has great transportation options, and offers fun for the whole family?

Then Disney’s Pop Century Resort should be a top contender on your consideration list!

We LOVE Pop Century and a lot of other Disney fans to do! It’s gathered quite the cult following over the years. But even more so now with its recent room renovations, improved food options, OH, and the addition of the Disney Skyliner!

As you’re doing your Disney research, let me just be quick to point out that if you’re comparing it to the other Value Resorts, Pop Century is definitely the winner. In this post, I’ll be covering prices, a room overview, food options, the grounds & pools, transportation, and more.

Let’s get to it!

Pop Century is a Value Resort

Walt Disney World has three different tiers, or price points when it comes to their resorts; Value, Moderate, and Deluxe. Pop Century is considered a Value Resort.

Value Resorts are in the lowest price point, have smaller room sizes (260 square feet to be exact), have limited dining options, and simple pool areas. You won’t find pool slides or jacuzzis at these. (But that doesn’t mean the pools here are boring, to say the least!)

Pop Century, however, is sort of in its own league as far as the Value Resorts go. Even though the rooms are on the smaller side and the amenities are pretty basic, Pop Century makes up for it by bringing the fun factor! You’ll find lots of colorful theming, larger-than-life Disney character statues, the ’70s themed flower pool, as well as two smaller pools, that in our opinion are equally as great!

As mentioned above, the quality of dining has also made big improvements recently, and the direct access to the new Disney Skyliner transportation system really makes Pop Century a standout in comparison to the other Value Resorts.

The average price range for Disney’s Pop Century Resort is between $150-$300 per night depending on the time of year. Weekends, holidays, and school break times are always the more expensive times to visit.

Theming

Pop Century’s theming in nothing but FUN! Giving a big nod to the 20th century, each section of the resort is themed to represent a specific decade.

All of the resort buildings are painted in bold bright colors. The outdoor railings and staircase are adorned with giant figures or icons of that specific decade.

In the 1950’s section, you’ll see an enormous jukebox, bowling pins, and figures of be-bop dancers wearing poodle skirts and loafers!

Staying in the 1960’s area? Look out for hippy dancers, giant peace signs, and flower power motifs plastered all over the resort buildings.

The ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s sections are equally as exciting! I love the enormous laptop computer overlooking the pool over in the ’90s courtyard. The screen even shows the old school AOL internet service. You can almost even hear the screeching AOL dialup as you walk by!

Rooms at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

The rooms at POP Century resort are on the smaller side, but really have everything you need. This is especially true if you will be spending most of your time out at the parks and will only need your room for catching some z’s at the end of each day.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

My husband has always been a huge fan of tiny houses and there’s something about the rooms at Pop Century that kind of reminds me of those. They are similar in that everything in the room serves a purpose, is simple, but is super functional at the same time. The layout is very smart and provides for a lot of storage with absolutely no waste of space.

All of the rooms at Pop Century have undergone a recent renovation. This included the switch from carpet to laminate flooring, sleek bathroom updates with additional storage, mid-century style furnishings, and my favorite part – the addition of a pulldown Murphy Bed! Uh, hello!

Queen Sized Murphy Bed

Yes! A Murphy Bed! During the day, you can fold it up and it becomes a table area. Once it’s time for bed, you simply move the chairs away, and with a quick pull, you have the second bed ready to go. It’s also a queen size! My kids loved this!

The room sleeps up to four, however, there is a little space next to the dresser before you enter the bathroom that’s big enough for a small travel crib. It would be a tight squeeze, but totally doable.

Altogether the furnishing includes two queen size beds, three floating nightstands with cubby storage, a dresser with drawers, and a built-in coffee bar/mini-fridge. The coffee bar also comes stocked with coffee, tea, creamer, and sweeteners. BONUS that it’s the Joffrey’s Brand of coffee!

If you didn’t know, Joffrey’s and Starbucks are the two brands that you’ll find on Disney’s property. Save yourself a few bucks and brew your own Joffrey’s in the morning. To-go cups with lids are also provided…cuz sippin’ Joffery’s coffee while on your Skyliner ride in the morning is nothing short of magical!

There is also a giant flat-screen TV and lots of places to plug-in your devices. Look at the built-in outlets incorporated into the furniture! Gotta love that!

The bathroom area is separated by a pocket door. There are lots of cubbies and a closet complete with hangers, an iron, and an ironing board. The shower is full-sized with a tub. The toilet and shower can also be closed off with another set of pocket doors complete with a full-sized mirror.

With a household full of boys, I can TOTALLY appreciate the separate bath/toilet area. I’m sure ya’ll can catch my drift! But it’s also just helpful should someone just need to brunch their teeth, while someone else is taking a shower.

Pop Century Dining Options

Dining options at Pop Century include the Everything POP Shopping and Dining location. This is a Quick-Service location located in the POP Century main lobby building, Classic Hall. It’s also where you’ll find the souvenir/merchandise shop.

Food options include eggs, breakfast meats, and Mickey Waffles for breakfast. There’s also a selection of cereals, oatmeal, and bakery items. Lunch offerings are burgers, chicken, pizza, and salads. For dinner, you’ll have the same options as lunch as well as a pot roast, plus pasta with meatballs.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

There are also plant-based options such as a BBQ burger and an assortment of pastries and desserts. POP Century is famous for its tie-dye cheesecake. If you’re staying at POP, it’s sort of like a right of passage. Make sure to grab one of these, throw up your peace sign, and post on Insta!

Resort Grounds

The grounds of the resort are colorful, exciting, yet have that quiet and relaxed feel. Pop Century’s theming is really over the top – but in the best way possible!

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

As you make your way around the grounds, you see both enormous Disney Character-statues as well as figures that represent the sign of the times for each decade. These are so much fun and make for amazing photo opportunities. Look close, you’ll also find some awesome Easter eggs in the designs on the statues/figurines around the resort.

You’ll also see smaller signs around the resort, especially around the walking path areas. These signs share fun facts and tidbits about pop culture. My two boys got a kick out of reading these! Did you know that in 1983 the last M*A*S*H episode drew in the largest audience for any TV show with over 125 million viewers?! Yah, we didn’t either and just think about all the fun we had trying to explain to the boys what that show even was!

The main lobby, Classic Hall, is the center of the resort with the resort buildings (specific decade areas) situated around. The Hippy Dippy Pool, which is also the main pool, is located directly behind the main lobby. This is also where you’ll find the Petals Pool Bar and the Henna Tattoo and Braid stand. (Currently not available since the reopening of Walt Disney World.)

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

The Hippy Dippy Pool is the largest of the three pools. It’s also in the shape of a flower! There’s a baby pool for the little tikes here, too. It’s right behind the Hippy Dippy Pool. This pool is heated, which is great info to keep in the back of your mind, especially if you’re visiting during the winter. Believe it or not, winter can bring cooler weather here to Orlando.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

A second pool is located in the ’50s section of the resort. It’s the Bowling Pool. And yep, you guessed it – it’s in the shape of a bowling pin! There’s a larger-than-life jukebox at one end of the pool. This pool is smaller than the Hippy Dippy pool, but it’s also a lot quieter in this area of the resort. We loved the theming and went here often during our stay at Pop Century.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

The third pool is located in the ’80s & ’90s courtyard of the resort. It’s the Computer Pool and it’s known for the ginormous laptop overlooking the water. There’s also a big ‘ol floppy disk (almost forgot about those things!) and keypad! Make sure to get a good look and take a photo of what’s on the screen of the laptop! Talk about a throwback!

Transportation

Disney’s Pop Century Resort is located closest to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, however, neither of these are within walking distance. You’ll need to take some sort of Disney transportation to get you to the parks.

One of the best features about staying at POP Century is the direct access to Disney’s newest mode of transportation – the Skyliner!!

Art of Animation is the only other Value Resort that has direct access to the Skyliner. If you do end up staying at another Value Resort, just know that your only other mode of transportation will be a Disney bus.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

The Skyliner is AMAZING! It is now my favorite way to travel in Walt Disney World. And that’s said by a girl who hates heights and flying!!

By taking the Skyliner, you’ll have a super quick way to get to either EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Skyliner is both stroller and wheelchair accessible. Both of these can be rolled right on.

When riding, you’ll get some spectacular views of Walt Disney World and it’s really like a ride in and of itself!

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

To get to Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs, or to the water parks, you’ll need to hop on a Disney Bus. There is only one main bus stop at Pop Century Resort. It is located out front of the main lobby area. There are designated lines for each of the four parks and Disney Springs.

Family Fun

As if the grounds, three pools, arcade, dining, and shopping areas weren’t enough, Disney also offers Movies Under the Stars on most nights.

Disney's Pop Century Resort: Everything You NEED to Know

These are screened at the Hippy Dippy Pool or out on some of the lawn areas. As you’re checking in, don’t forget to get the movie schedule for the days that you’ll be visiting. These are a lot of fun and a great way to relax after a long day in the parks.
