Walt Disney World Mask Updates: Here’s What You Need to Know!

Ready or not, friends…Walt Disney World has been updating its health and safety procedures faster than we can eat a Dole Whip. And trust me, that’s pretty fast!

Frankly, all of it can just be downright confusing!! One of the biggest updates that Disney recently dropped has been about masks and their policy for wearing them in the parks.

Disney Mask Policy

In this post, I’ll be sharing with you everything you need to know about wearing a mask at Disney. I also promise to keep this post updated. That way you’ll have the latest information at your fingertips and you will know how to plan ahead for your trip!

Let’s jump in!!

Are masks required at Walt Disney World?

Sometimes. I told you it’s been a little confusing. (Bottom line, don’t ditch your masks just yet!)

Beginning June 15th, 2021, Disney guests will no longer be required to wear a mask anywhere with the exception of transportation. You will still need to wear a mask when taking a Disney bus, ferry, boat, monorail, etc.

This most recent change followed an update put out by Orange County Mayor, Jerry Demings. On June 5th, all COVID-19 mask recommendations had been lifted in Orange county, where Disney is located.

This is a change from Disney’s first mask policy amendment that dropped on May 15th. The former mask policy stated that masks would only be required when indoors, on attractions, and on transportation. The latter was amended after the CDC updated its guidelines to state that fully vaccinated Americans, would no longer need to wear their face coverings in most indoor situations.

But what’s the official policy from Disney?

Here it is! You can find all Walt Disney World health and safety protocol updates here.

Can you break it down for me?

Absolutely!!

According to Disney’s official policy…

If you’re fully vaccinated – masks are only required on Disney transportation.

Not fully vaccinated – you will need to continue to wear a mask only indoors, throughout line queues and attractions, and on any Disney transportation.

Do you need to show proof of vaccination?

Nope. Not at this time. Disney seems to be using the honor system here and looking to its guests to follow their COVID health and safety protocols without further enforcement.

What about the kids?

This is where a lot of my Disney friends have questions and concerns. Prior to the most recent mask updates, children ages two years old and up were required to wear a mask. It would only seem logical to think that until children are vaccinated, they would still be required to wear a mask indoors, when going on attractions, and when using any mode of Disney transportation.

However, Disney is not requiring proof of vaccination, so you will need to use your best parental judgement here.

What are the best masks to wear in the Florida heat and humidity?

I’m so glad you asked!

The heat can be extreme here in Orlando, especially in the summer and early fall. Hopefully, we won’t have to worry about masks for too much longer, but with the way things are changing so quickly – who really knows?

My best advice is to try a few different masks and be sure you find the ones that are the most comfortable for YOU! I also recommend packing two for each person, per day. There’s a good chance your mask might get soggy from sweat, wet from water attractions, lost, or otherwise.

At this point, I wouldn’t spend a lot of money on masks and would go the disposable route. Disposable masks are usually light, breathable, and can easily be tossed should they get wet or icky from wear. I found some really fun ones that are colorful and Disney-themed. I’ve linked them below.
