Review: Gideon’s Bakehouse is Now Open in Disney Springs
Known as Florida’s best cookie, Gideon’s Bakehouse is now open at Disney Springs! We made sure to be one of the first to check it out. We’re here to share our honest review as well as everything you need to know about visiting this very peculiar cookie shoppe!
Hours & Location
Gideon’s Bakehouse is located at Disney Springs. For quick reference, you’ll find it across from Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar and on the opposite corner of Wine Bar George.
The current hours are 10 AM – 11 PM daily.
Virtual Queue
We arrived at Disney Springs at around 10:30 AM and there was already a long line of visitors eager to get their hands on these famous cookies. Gideon’s Bakehouse was using a virtual queue to manage the crowds and entry into the bakehouse.
Look out for the Gideon’s Bakery sign right after the bridge by the Morimoto Asia restaurant. That’s where the line began to sign up for the virtual queue.
My best advice here would just be prepared to wait. There was a line to even get signed up for the virtual queue. (This was about 12 minutes.) We gave our name, last name initial, and phone number to the friendly Gideon’s Cast Member. Finally, we were informed that we’d receive two text messages. The first text message would confirm our space in the virtual queue and the other would notify us when it was our turn to head to the bakehouse and get our cookies.
Our wait time was 90 minutes. We didn’t mind too much as we were able to hang out in the Springs and check in on the sales at the World of Disney.
At right around the 70-minute mark, we got a text signaling us to head back to the bakehouse. (Earlier than expected!)
Here is the second line to actually enter the bakehouse, once we returned after our wait time.
This line was about another 30-minute wait. Even though we had our fair share of waiting, the use of the virtual queue was very organized.
While we waited, we were presented with these menu cards. Even with just a quick look, you get a pretty good idea that this isn’t your average bakery! 😉
Menu & Mysterious Backstory
It was super helpful to get a preview of all the goodies beforehand!
This bakehouse is designed to look like it’s straight outta the victorian era. Gideon’s whole MO is “cookies, cakes, and curiosities.” We would agree that this little shoppe is very curious, indeed!
Gideon’s Bakehouse pays homage to the original owner of the building, Jonathan Lindwurm. He was a bookseller and also offered apothecaries. The old lure tells that he died in the building and never made his way out!
Apparently, while Gideon’s crew was conducting the renovations, they found his old daguerreotype within the brick walls. His portrait now hangs in the bakehouse. You can scroll down to see it in all its glory, and make sure to read the full story on their website and Instagram.
Don’t be afraid to ask any of Gideon’s Cast Members for the backstory, too. We asked a lot of questions and ended up chatting with the crew as we were waiting in line to enter.
We learned a lot and it made for a fun wait! They were happy to share all the little secrets behind the place.
Once we finally made it to the doors of the bakehouse, the Gideon’s Cast Members opened the large looming doors for us, almost as if we were being dared to enter.
OH, but we did! And just look at what we saw…
Gideon’s Bakehouse Atmosphere
As soon as we stepped into the bakehouse, it was an experience for the senses!
The atmosphere was perfectly themed to make you feel like you were really in a mysterious bookstore/apothecary. Dark low lighting from victorian style lanterns flickered overhead, while red-colored lamps illuminated the old book collections lining the bookcases.
The ceilings, counters, and bookcases were finished in what appeared to be a black yet distressed lacquer. And just look at the bending and buckling of the bookcases. Oh, the details!
There were shorter bookcases filled with odd antiquities, too! You’ll see those immediately to your right upon entering. You can check my Instagram for the full view!
But the smell! My goodness! The smell of the cookies and cakes that filled the small bakehouse was AMAZING!
Gideon’s Bakehouse Cookies and Cakes
As we winded our way through the short queue, we caught a glimpse of the famous cookies and bakery case.
Each of their cookies is about a half-pound each and are priced at $6 each. That might seem a little pricey for a cookie, but in our opinion, it is worth it. These aren’t just cookies, but more like a super decadent dessert!
These are big enough to share and are very rich. I couldn’t finish eating one in a single session.
We ordered four different cookies; the Original Chocolate Chip, Triple Chocolate Chip, Cookies and Cream, and the morning exclusive – Coffee Cake Cookie.
Even the packaging is branded to perfection. Look at our stamped box and individually wrapped cookies. The thrills just kept coming with this shoppe!
Gideon’s Bakehouse Cookie Review
The important things to know before you go!
- If you want to get the specialty or breakfast editions, get there early. Gideon’s Bakehouse only makes a small amount of these and once they are gone, they are done!
- Cookies are first come, first serve. If you visit later in the day, some selections may be sold out.
- There is a 6 cookie limit per person. If you’d like to place a larger order, you will need to do that on their website. There is a 48-hour turnaround window for this.
- Nitro cold brew, as well as other beverages, are available. The cold brews are in a premade mix, made with oat milk, and are completely dairy-free.
- Gideon’s Bakehouse does not have a phone. Nope! They encourage you to follow them on their social media and make inquires through their website.
- They are open daily from 10 AM-11 PM. This is their second location. The original bakehouse is located in Winter Park, Florida with those operating hours being different.
