Dining Review: T-REX Cafe in Disney Springs

Do you have a dinosaur lover in your family? Then dining at the T-REX Cafe in Disney Springs is pretty much a no-brainer! From the giant 15-foot roaring Tyrannosaurus to the themed dining rooms, realistic animatronics, meteor shower, and the shopping, this is a dining experience that your little paleontologist will surely get a kick out of!

What to Know Before You Go

The T-REX Cafe is located in the Disney Springs area of Walt Disney World. This is a super popular dining location, so I highly recommend that you make reservations in advance of your trip. You can do this here or by using the My Disney Experience app. During this reopening phase of Walt Disney World, you can make dining reservations up to 60 days in advance. Typically, you would be able to make your dining reservations 180 days in advance.

If you’re not finding any luck on the either website or the app, try calling (407) 828-8739. You can also try walking up and asking for availability on the actual day of your visit. While this isn’t guaranteed, they may be able to squeeze you in, but be prepared for a wait.

If you are flexible with seating, ask about sitting out at the Shark Bar. They typically have immediate seating available. While you won’t be inside, you are welcome to explore the restaurant and dinosaurs while you’re waiting for your food or after your meal.

Atmosphere & Theming

Dining at the T-REX is exciting and a unique experience! Upon your arrival, you’ll be greeted with a giant T-Rex fossil right outside of the restaurant. There’s also a jeep that looks like it’s loaded up for its next dinosaur dig. There are a few other dinosaurs hanging out around the entrance. These make for fun photo opportunities and are a great way to pass the time as your wait for your table.

Once you step inside, you’ll immediately find yourself being transported to a time nearly 300 billion years ago! The restaurant is broken up into themed sections such as the Fern Forest, Sequoia Room, Coral Reef, and the Ice Cave among others. Massive dinosaurs are situated throughout the restaurant. Just when you think you’ve gotten your bearings, a realistic meteor shower strikes through the entire restaurant. You’ll watch as the “sky” lights up and balls of fire streak across the sky. The dinosaurs move and roar in reaction to the storm!

The meteor shower takes place about every twenty minutes, so you’ll likely experience it several times throughout your visit. While this is extremely fun and exciting, especially for the kids, just know in advance that this isn’t going to be a quiet and relaxing dinner!

T-REX is also a great place to let your kids play! There are hands-on discovery activities at the Paleo Zone. Here the kids can dig for dinosaur fossils, pan for treasures, and learn about the history of dinosaurs through interactive displays.

Before you go, don’t forget to nab yourself a fun souvenir from the Dino Store located at the entrance and exit of the restaurant. The Dino Store has dinosaur-themed clothing, fun toys, and other interesting paleo finds! Also located towards the back of the merchandise shop is the Build-A-Dino Workshop. This is the same as the Build-A-Bear Workshop, but make it Jurrasic!
