Our Whimsical Disney-Inspired Christmas Decor

“Deck the halls with boughs of holly! FALALALALALALALA!”

Oh, hi friends! I didn’t see you there…I’m just over here decorating for Christmas like waaaaay earlier than I ever have in my entire life. Sheesh…2020 has been strange…hasn’t it?!

Since we won’t be traveling this holiday season, I figured I might as well get a jump start on our Christmas decorating. With all the extra time, I found that I was able to get creative and add in lots of fun Disney twists to my typical farmhouse decor style.

For this year’s Christmas decor, I knew I wanted to add some Disney elements, but keeping it whimsical and well…a little magical. There’s just something so special about seeing the Christmas tree all lit up with twinkle lights and sparkly ornaments.

Now, I don’t pretend that I could ever pull off Disney’s kind of magic, but this is our little version of it…

Come on in!!

Christmas Mantle

I started out by decorating the mantle. This is a “new-to-us” house and I’m just so stoked to have a fireplace! (Even if we’ll never use it in Florida, ha!)

I lined the fireplace with some holly garland that I already had in my Christmas decor stash. I wrapped the garland in white twinkle lights. There isn’t an electrical outlet near the mantle, so I made a trip to Michael’s craft store and bought a couple of strands that are battery operated. No cords or wires to try and hide this way.

While I was at Michael’s, I also grabbed a few rolls of ribbon. Red & white polka dots and stripes to channel Mickey and Minnie, of course. The bulbs are just the plastic ones from the Dollar Tree…but 6 came in a pack for $1…score!

To personalize the plain white stockings, (I think I picked these up at Hobby Lobby a few years ago) I added some simple chalkboard labels and attached the tags with some red grosgrain ribbon. I couldn’t help but add a few “Hidden Mickey’s.” A white chalk pen was used for the lettering.

Above the stockings, I hung a Christmas wreath made of greenery, pinecones, and holly leaves. Using the same ribbon that I used on top of the mantle, I weaved it throughout the wreath and made a bow for the top.

The boys and I decided to get crafty. Here, we created these super cute Santa Mickey ornaments from bulbs that were also Dollar Tree finds. We put these together with just a dab of hot glue.

Our Disney-Inspired Christmas Tree

Our Christmas tree is an artificial one that we’ve had for a few years now. I love that it already has flocking, pinecones, and red holly berries as part of the design. That makes less work for me when having to decorate!

We added the red sparkly mesh ribbon first, followed by the gold ribbon. There’s also some red grosgrain and lace ribbon tucked in there, too. Then we added lots of bulbs…red, gold, and silver. We added as many as we could possibly fit so that the tree looked nice and full!

Now for the fun part…using ornaments that we already had, including family heirlooms, and a few new ones that we picked up at Target and Michael’s, we were able to add lots of dimension to the tree.

Look at these adorable Disney ornaments that we found at Target!

Cartoon Mickey! Doesn’t he look like he stepped right off Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway?

Minnie Christmas Ornament…love those polka dots!

More red & white polka dots! These gingerbread ornaments from Michael’s remind me of the gingerbread characters in the Magic Kingdom’s Christmas Cavalcades.
We also added a few of these candy cane ornaments. We found these at the Dollar Tree. Aren’t they so fun?

In keeping with my farmhouse style, we stuffed this Christmas countdown sign right into the tree. It’s a bit messy here, but I let the boys write the new number each morning. I think this was from last year’s Target Dollar Spot.

To finish off the tree, I wanted to go big!! Using a Santa hat that we already had, we hot glued on some Mickey ears. We cut these out of black styrofoam. Then, using red and white sparkly floral picks from Michael’s, we just shoved these right into the tree to add the finishing flair. What Christmas tree couldn’t use more a little more flair? 😀

Finishing Touches…

Next to the tree, you probably noticed that adorable little mailbox. Our youngest son picked this out. It’s also from Michael’s craft store. He told me that we just had to have it so that we wouldn’t have to leave the house to mail their Christmas lists to Santa. He isn’t wrong, ya know!!

Soon after all the decor was up, it wasn’t long before our elf, Spice was back from the North Pole. The boys were so excited to see him sitting on top of their little mailbox. They just knew their letters to Santa were personally getting delivered this year!! ❤️

Oh, and our dog Piper also couldn’t stay away from all of our decorating fun! She’s so rotten!

To finish off the room, I used red and white striped throw pillows that I bought from Marshall’s a couple of years ago. I also put out some glass vases full of red holiday bulbs, and a swag of greenery with twinkle lights with matching ribbon across the coffee table.

Did you notice the screen on the TV? It’s Main Street, U.S.A.! This is actually a YouTube video that plays Christmas music and shows it snowing in the Magic Kingdom. You can get it here! Trust me…your living room will have all the best holiday vibes going on with this!!

The bottom of the tree is finished off with a red metal tree collar and the boys’ Polar Express Train. This is a tradition and comes out every year!

That’s a Wrap!

That’s a wrap on our whimsical Disney-inspired Christmas decorations for this year. I love how we were able to capture the spirit of Disney without being too cheesy or over the top with our decor. I also love how we were able to include some of our family favorite ornaments and traditions to keep it feeling personal and special. Now it’s just time to relax and enjoy the holiday!!
